Working with Dates
Format dates with FORMAT_DATE codes, handle UTC gotchas in text columns, and configure working days for WORKDAY and WORKDAYS functions.
All date functions in Formula Trigga operate in UTC. This matters when targeting Text columns and when using time-of-day functions.
Dates in Text Columns
When a date value is written to a Text column without formatting, you get the raw UTC string:
Sun Feb 01 2026 00:00:00 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time)Use FORMAT_DATE() to control the output:
FORMAT_DATE({Due Date}, "MMMM Do, YYYY")→ "February 1st, 2026"
Always use FORMAT_DATE when writing dates to Text columns. Without it, your text column shows the full UTC string — not useful for automations or notifications.
When writing to a Date column, Formula Trigga automatically converts to YYYY-MM-DD format — no formatting needed.
FORMAT_DATE Format Codes
FORMAT_DATE(date, format_string) uses Moment.js format tokens:
| Token | Output | Example |
|---|---|---|
YYYY | 4-digit year | 2026 |
YY | 2-digit year | 26 |
MMMM | Full month name | February |
MMM | Abbreviated month | Feb |
MM | 2-digit month | 02 |
M | Month number | 2 |
dddd | Full day name | Sunday |
ddd | Abbreviated day | Sun |
DD | 2-digit day | 01 |
D | Day number | 1 |
Do | Ordinal day | 1st |
HH | 24-hour (00-23) | 00 (UTC) |
mm | Minutes (00-59) | 00 |
ss | Seconds (00-59) | 00 |
Common patterns:
FORMAT_DATE(TODAY(), "YYYY-MM-DD") → "2026-02-01"
FORMAT_DATE(TODAY(), "MMMM Do, YYYY") → "February 1st, 2026"
FORMAT_DATE(TODAY(), "dddd, MMMM Do YYYY") → "Sunday, February 1st 2026"
FORMAT_DATE(TODAY(), "MM/DD/YYYY") → "02/01/2026"Without a format string, FORMAT_DATE(TODAY()) defaults to "Feb 16, 2020"-style output.
Time values are UTC. HH, mm, and ss reflect UTC time, not your local timezone. Date columns from monday.com are stored as midnight UTC.
Configuring Working Days
The WORKDAY and WORKDAYS functions respect your account's working days configuration.
Default: Monday through Friday (Mon-Fri).
To change which days count as working days, open Formula Trigga's Settings view and go to the Working Days tab. Select the days your team works — for example, Sunday through Thursday for teams in regions with different work weeks.
Internally, days are numbered 1 (Monday) through 7 (Sunday). The WORKDAY function skips any day not in your configured set.
WORKDAY — returns a date N working days from a start date:
WORKDAY({Start Date}, 10)→ the date 10 working days after {Start Date}, skipping non-working days.
WORKDAYS — counts working days between two dates:
WORKDAYS({Start Date}, {End Date})→ number of working days in the range (inclusive).
Both functions support an optional holidays parameter for one-off non-working dates.
